Why I feel Sasha Banks didn’t go to far, my excitement for NXT, and evolution

  • NXT going live to Wednesday nights on USA network is huge. Not only will the rating be competing with AEW, but Triple H really has the audience and spotlight to prove why he should be in charge after Vince decided to retire. I think this is really good for wrestling all together and I am excited to see the future of NXT.
  • I been talking about wanting a deep story with Kof and him and Orton have glued me in. Revival and Orton together is a deep threat and a future tag team in the making. Also the sympathy of one of my favorites Xaiver selling a leg break is a great add to this story. I am all in on this storyline right now.
  • I know my girl Bayley gets a lot of hate, but you all have to be invested into Charlotte vs Bayley. I know a lot think that Charlotte will automatically win this feud but I disagree. Charlotte has had titles, media and shine she should be thinking like Daniel and start putting over talent not bury them. I would love to see Bayley turn heel and or win this feud somehow. To me Bayley is the most underrated wrestler in the WWE. Her wrestling skills are incredible and yes her promos could use some work but she is not writing her own promos. I way of Bayley and Sasha reuniting at some point would be a great way to book Survivor Series.
  • Sami and Shinsuke together as a team or Sami as the manager is something that really really intrigues me. WWE has a hard time developing talent that doesn’t speak fluent english and I think Sami with Shinsuke could be gold.
  • Buddy defeating DB on Smackdown was a simple display of that you don’t always have to be the guy that you can help and put talent over. I loved this match and I am loving everything Buddy Murphy is doing right now.
  • I absolutely loved Ziggler vs Roman, it was my favorite match of the week. I would love a program with these two and with the right storyline, Zigs being Roman’s attacker would be great. Sure Dean returning to attack or even Rollins would be surprising but it’s all about the story for me.
  • We have new tag team champions and this could be an interesting storyline. Still feeling on this one. Curious if they turn Rollins or Braun or if we get babyface vs babyface for that title.
  • A lot of people online were complaining about Natalya’s dad being brought up in this story and the line that Sasha used was “go to hell and tell your daddy I said HI.” First of all I can bet Sasha was uncomfortable saying that line and that Natalya pitched the idea. I can see if from both sides of there is no payoff why bring this tragedy into a storyline. I can also see the side of wanting to bring real life stories into WWE and heels have been very weak these last couple years and a real heel would say some horrible shit like this. Sasha is a great heel and what I really like is there is more than wrestler in this storyline. She has a story with Natalya and she also has a story with Becky. This is the hottest feud in WWE right now and it hasn’t even started.

Natty Insight:

  • I like the concept of the king of the ring tournament, but I personally wanted long, competitive, false finishing matches. King of like cruiserweight classic and G1.
  • Babyface Kevin Owens and babyface Miz is not for me. I don’t have sympathy for baby faces that complain and bring up money. You are in the WWE, a superstar. I don’t think the fans should believe or even think they are less.
  • For me the Rey Mysterio retirement tease did nothing for me. First he was backstage and second the crying for some reason didn’t make me feel bad for him. It felt like a cheesy soap opera and I didn’t dig it.
  • Women’s tag team titles aren’t there for me yet. I think Bliss and Nikki are great together but I don’t see it long term. If they used boss n hug correct and IIConics that could of been something special but they wasted it. There needs to be more tag teams for this to be taken seriously.
  • I’m not the biggest comedy fan unless it’s my new day. The 24/7 championship was cute and had it’s laughs at the beginning, but I am over it at this point. I like R-Truth but Drake and the other come off and not as a superstar, unrealistic and honestly embarrassing.
  • There have been rumors that Evolution 2 isn’t happening due to not having enough talent. I disagree! Your potential card could of had tag team titles with Natalya and Beth vs. IIconics vs. Bliss and Nikki vs the Bellas, could of had Lita vs. Charlotte, could of had Bayley vs anyone on that women’s roster, and also could of had Becky vs Sasha headlining with also surprise appearances from legends the future of nxt.
  • I am probably the only one, but the fiend isn’t a character that I invest or care about. I know so many are going crazy and thinking this is the best thing in wrestling in forever, I Just don’t see it or feel it. I was a huge Undertaker fan,but Kane, Boogieman or any of the supernatural dark characters were never interesting to me.

Sasha Banks returns and so does’t women’s wrestling, Summerslam aftermath, Shane/KO continuing, Rollins emotional win and Cedric VS Drew

Hello everyone! I hope everyone has had a great four days of wrestling. I thought takeover and Summerslam were extremely good and the return of Sasha Banks on Raw seriously made my week. My favorite moment on takeover was watching Candice Larae wrestler, she is one of my favorites in NXT and I can’t wait to see more from her. I thought Summerslam was a solid show but my two favorite matches were Rollins VS Brock and Becky VS Natalya. To me those two matches had the best wrestling and storytelling. Got to give Brock credit for selling for Rollins and putting together a lengthy amazing match. I was very happy for Seth Rollins. He is my favorite wrestler and with all the negative reaction he has been getting I could tell this win meant everything to him which made me very happy. The Natalya vs Becky match was amazing to me. The submissions, selling and story told in that match was absolutely incredible.

I enjoyed parts of Raw and that’s what made it a must see show for me. I liked Rollins thanking the fans and his little promo. I would of enjoyed more aggression and emotion out of him and not shaking AJ’s hand but I am all for AJ VS Rollins in a detailed storyline.

Samoa Joe beat Sami really quick which I felt bad for Sami but if this is a slow face build for Joe I am all for it.

This is a piece of the show I did not like at all. Zigs is one of my favorite in ring wrestlers and what they are doing to him right now of making him a whiny loser makes me sad.

I’m liking the potential storyline we are getting with Mysterio. I don’t know if this is teasing retirement or for him to continue with Andrade but very interested.

Match of Raw for me was Cedric VS Drew. Wow this match was amazing and I am so glad they let Cedric do his thing. IF you don’t consider Cedric a star after that I am not sure what to tell you. I been following him since the cruiserweight classic and I just want him pushed, one of my favorites.

Bliss and Cross as tag team champions right now is good, I like it. This is a good slow build story until one of them turns on each other.

Moment of the whole damn week and weekend was Sasha Banks returning on Monday Night Raw. She first attacked Natalya which I wasn’t the biggest fan of but it did the work. I would of preferred Becky cutting a promo and Sasha attacking her but oh boy this did the job. Sasha was using chairs on Becky and trash talking, this was everything and more. The best women’s beat down since maybe the golden era with Trish and Lita. Glad Sasha Banks is back and sorry if I offend any of the other females but women’s division was lost and not I feel it is back.

It looks like Owens and Shane storyline is continuing. Not something I am really invested into but as long as there is a story I will give it a shot.

Charlotte and Moon was a good match but not sure why Ember who lost to the champion is against Charlotte who beat Trish. I really feel for Ember, they keep burying her.

Good promo by new day, they always entertain me. I really hope Xaiver gets to be part of the king of the ring. I love everything Kofi has been doing, I would like more aggression but really interested in the Orton feud continuing.

Wow, Buddy Murphy is no longer a secret. What an amazing match with Roman Reigns. These cruiserweights or former ones are really shining first Ali, then Cedric and now Buddy, I am really loving it.

Joe VS Owens was all for Owens to get screwed over by Elias. Honestly I was not ever really invested into this match so I was alright with the ending. I am not sure how I feel about KO being treated like Austin and Shane being treated like Vince. I don’t see Owens as an underdog so it’s an interesting story we are in right now.

Great backstage segment with Rowan and DB attacking Buddy and making him admit he lied about Roman’s attacker.

Who is the next squared circle queen?

The question with my debate which is open to all opinions is who is the next Trish or Lita. We have witnessed a lot of women come forward. Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, AJ Lee, Molly Holly, Asuka, Sara del rey, Lita, Trish, Madusa, Victoria, Ivory, Nikki Bella, Naiomi, Melina, Jazz, Kari Sane, Toni Storm, Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Candice Larae, Ember Moon, Awesome Kong, Mia Yim, Lo Shira, Bianca Belair, Moolah, Mae Young, Wendi Richter, also independent/Impact ladies like Tessa, Mercedes Martinez, Gail Kim, Madison Eagles, Allie, Serena Deeb, Lacey, Cheerleader Melissa, Sexy Star, Aja Kong, Britt Baker, Kylie Ray, and so much more.

What are you and we looking for when we speak of the next goddess, golden girl, queen, squared circle of pro wrestling. I am going to highlight some highspots on in my opinion what makes a wrestler a star.

  • Character/gimmick: Living that character and embracing that gimmick. Making everything about your character, part of yourself. Being comfortable in your own skin and making the fans believe that is your everyday character. A lot have a problem with this especially with social media.
  • Phycology/chemistry: To be great not only in the ring but on the mic, you have to have that connection not only with the fans, but with your opponent. Also believing in yourself and getting the fans engaged into your storylines, emotions and character.
  • Telling a story/storylines: From the beginning what got fans so involved and glued was the story telling and emotion, that organic real feel. When a wrestler can tell a story in the ring regardless of what creative gives them, that’s a true star.
  • Selling/charisma: These two things are very important. You need the charisma to make a fan feel like that character is relatable and you need the selling to make the fans believe, this adds a lot to the in ring story a wrestler is explaining, it’s really the truest art. You also need the “look.” This look doesn’t mean you have to look like a model or the girl next door, it means you have what it takes.
  • Spots/promos: If you could choose, what’s more important? Spots or a solid breathtaking promo. Once upon a time you had average wrestling skills along with solid mic skills, now wrestlers focus more on their spots rather then their promos. With wrestlers raising the bar in the athletic department, now day’s you need both to get over. A wrestler to make it as the top woman or top guy, you need to be solid at both as that is what fans these days are demanding. A lot of pressure and only some have it.

A lot of women are solid on some and even most of these, but not all of these. To be the queen, goddess, the woman, top girl, top woman, top female, trailblazer, boss, the man, you need to be all. There is one female wrestler that comes to my mind and that is Sasha Banks, now let me explain before I get the backflash.

What did the early 2000s give us that a lot of women’s wrestling era’s seemed to lack? They were not all the same, they were different flavors for every unique fan. You have to connect to your audience and open up yourself to them. The women’s wrestling in early 2000’s did that and this is no knock on Mae Young, Moolah or even the females in mid 2000’s that were diva’s but being different and relatable is everything.

Trish had that emotion in her for wrestling, a beautiful blonde from toronto that found love for wrestling the more she trained. She didn’t want to be a valet or manager,  she wanted to work hard, get those bruises and wrestle. Beautiful girls all around the world believed they could really do this. Trish’s athletic ability was really the first time you saw women focus on their craft and want it to be perfect, like their own painting. You see so many women inspired by Trish maybe more than any female wrestler and her being relatable and fighting for her spot had a lot to do with that. She was unique in her own way, she had the brains, determination, beauty, passion, strength and fitness but also the dream girl look for the guys.

Lita was a whole different flavor and she was what gave the girls and women that maybe didn’t want to dress or look perfect, relate to someone that just wanted to be themselves. A tomboy, a rebel, a punk rocker, a woman that just lived in the moment and went for her dreams. She dropped everything in life and moved to Mexico for wrestling, she had that light of never giving up regardless of what anyone thought of her or told her. Wearing baggy pants, she made all girls and women know you don’t have to dress half naked in a wrestling match. You can look sexy covered up and who says you even have to look sexy. Even though Lita was a red headed lovely beautiful woman she had that attitude of fuck all of you and I will be me. With Lita also taking out the boys and hanging with the boys, all women and men could relate to Lita and her attitude just connected with so many. She also sacrificed so much for wrestling, breaking her neck, tearing her ACL, having everyone watch her relationship erupt on TV. She left it all in the ring and would of done anything for wrestling and that was what made so many idolize her.

What both of these women had that women these days don’t is deep dialog, not extremely scripted storylines. Some can adapt to change and some can’t. Both Lita and Trish would pitch to Vince and creative and do their own thing, not line by line of what Vince or creative suggested. They never played it safe, they took risks and let Vince know when they weren’t comfortable with something too. Storylines, your character, your own style, flavor means a lot but what means more is how you can create, enhance and end a feud. Lita and Trish were the best at that. The only female that comes to my mind when I think of how intense Lita and Trish got is how intense Sasha Banks gets with any of her opponents.

Back to Sasha Banks, she has a solid, intense, believable, relatable character and lives her gimmick as the boss. She fights for her dreams and won’t let journalist, fans or the company she works for take away the love she has for wrestling, she has always remained a fan of the product and isn’t ashamed of that. Her wrestling ability is top notch, up next to Natalya, Bayley, Charlotte, Tessa, Bayley, and Becky. She tells a story in the ring, even when WWE doesn’t give her the best opportunities and storylines. From her facials, to promos, to ring work. Sasha is the full package and in my eyes the next squared circle goddess or more like squared circle boss, the next Lita, Trish.

Another part of being a star, is moments and history or in this case herstory. Sasha Banks has had so many first evers including females in the WWE wrestling for the first time in Dubai. Sasha faced Alexa Bliss and made history, she also was in first ever Hell in A Cell, no falls counts anywhere, iron women match and women’s royal rumble. Sasha Banks and Bayley made the biggest impact in NXT out of any other wrestlers, male or female and when she went to the main roster there was no denying how incredible she was and every time women’s wrestling went up another level, Sasha was part of it and all for the right reasons. The biggest moment in women’s wrestling happened at Evolution, the first ever all women’s PPV. Sasha Banks and Bayley had been on a roll in the tag teams division for the last 6 months and made history by winning the first ever tag team women’s titles. Booking wise it was really heartbreaking to see Sasha and Bayley losing the tag titles at Wrestlemania and told they would split up. With that said the future can only tell but Sasha deserves to be in women’s title picture again with all the impact and hard work she has put into women’s wrestling and the women’s evolution in WWE.

I personally have not seen a female wrestler I can connect with since Lita and Trish. Everyone has their own flavor and spice. Mine is respect, passion, emotion, hard work mixed with all the elements of creating a wrestler. My one big hope is intergender wrestling coming back to life and Sasha I know would be perfect for that challenge and another stepstone in her career. When I look at Sasha I see a wrestler that has wanted this for her entire life and she will not let go and that’s why she keeps bringing it every match, regardless. With all the topics I have discussed above is the reasons I feel Sasha is and should be the top women, the most pushed female in the WWE. In the end regardless of how WWE pushes, uses or handles Sasha she will always remain as one of the greatest wrestlers ever, because that is how damn good she is.
