Stomping Grounds

Cruiserweight championship: I see Tony retaining here, but Drew as a heel champion would bring a lot to 205 live. 205 is great and getting better, but I do not get invested into Tony personally. With that said Tony is amazing in ring.

Big E & Xaiver VS. Sami and Kevin: I see Xaiver and Big E winning this, but I would like to see KO and Sami to win. First of all booking heels to constantly lose I am not a fan of, no reason why baby faces cannot take the pin or submission also. Second we have seen KO and Sami together and as opponents, I think it’s time to seperate them.

Tag team championship: I have a surprise win and Heavy Machinery defeating Bryan and Rowan. Wrestling websites if you can believe have been saying Bryan wants more of a part time schedule and he has also been losing as of late against Rollins which was an amazing match by the way. Another thing is tag team division on Smackdown is stale so it may be time for a new champion even though Daniel is money in the ring and on the mic.

United States Championship: I have this match ending in DQ or not contest somehow. I see Ricochet eventually getting the title but not at stomping grounds.

Roman VS Drew: I really feel we need a heel to win to elevate the heel stable with Shane on this PPV but I am taking Roman to defeat Drew. Roman also is someone that needs a boost.

Universal Championship: I cannot see any way of Corbin defeating Rollins at all, I see this being a strong match for Rollins to retain and prove why he is the best wrestler in the world. I also see him getting vicious and violent.

Raw women’s championship: I see Becky Lynch retaining at Stomping Grounds. I know a lot of fans and journalist say there is no one for Becky to feud with and that is why she will drop title but I disagree. I think Lacey was a bad first choice it did make straight fire not so much fire, but Becky is great and still is over and made it all work. Wrestlers that I would love to see face Becky are Natalya, Bliss, Ruby, Dana and Sasha who I do believe will be returning. Heel Sasha VS. edgy baby Becky would be feud of the year.

WWE championship: This will be a great match and I am looking forward to this match the most, but I do see Ziggler losing. I have Kofi retaining in strong fashion with the wrestling ability this match will provide.

Smackdown women’s championship: This is a match that most may not be looking forward to, but these two have chemistry and are bringing that rumored real life heat between Sasha and Bliss into this match. I am really looking forward to this match but I do have Bayley retaining and I hope I’m right. Bliss is on Smackdown and would be a good next feud for Becky, but it’s also too soon for Bayley to lose, this is her best run ever in the WWE and I am loving everything Bayley is doing. She is my favorite and all of this is beautiful to see, I just hope we have it for much longer.

Rollins vs everyone, Becky Balboa and Rollins VS Bryan steals the show

Really enjoyed this weeks Raw, it had a lot of new material and stories developing.

Seth Rollins really has been the MVP and must watch wrestler for me the past month. Rollins has always been my favorite, but he is on a whole nother level right now. He is doing heel antics, but can’t help but agree and love it. I love the chair hitting, the fearlessness and aggression towards the rest of the roster. He is the champion and should be acting this way, glad he found the real Seth Rollins. Yes Elias, EC3 and and Eric Young are all not being used to their highest potential and many could say this is burying them, but I think it’s elevating Rollins.

Fatal 5-way elimination match was an amazing match on Raw. I was very happy that Ricochet won, I do feel him and Joe could have a great story. I did like how Braun dominated at the beginning and how Ricochet got back into it. Miz performance was underrated, I wouldn’t of minded him and Ricochet going a little longer. Amazing match.

The women’s division hasn’t been good at all, but my hope and heart is always with Bayley and Becky. I am so happy they are our champions and I’m not sure for how long, but I have enjoyed it. Becky is still that bad ass that turned on Charlotte, a lot say she has lost fire but to me it’s not her. They are handing her inexperienced Lacey and the matches haven’t been great but Becky has still been able to keep her fire. I really hope Becky retains this Sunday because we need the women’s division to be taken seriously. Becky’s promo was on point and looking forward to whats next for Becky Balboa. Becky is fire but could use a spark for the universe to get back on their feet, I would have Becky squash Lacey. Lacey has a future and she would be good in a mid card feud but Becky making a statement maybe followed by a wrestler that does the bank statement would sure be a way to kick of a new feud. We got an alright tag team division match but Bayley and Bliss got into. Unfortunately women’s tag team division is lost and needs to find it’s identity. I’m not the biggest Bliss fan but her and Nikki as tag team champions I would be invested in. I love Bayley and I know they will have a good match but Bliss facing Bayley gives us this mean girl storyline which I’m not a fan of.

Good tag team match with New day, Sami, KO and Corbin, but there is no story or anything to it. I feel like I’ve repetitively seen this match. To me this was filler, but I loved seeing New Day wrestle.

Something that caught my eyes as a potential story and got me really excited was AJ questioning the Clubs care and hard work. This will be a good story as they lost again on Raw. I am all for AJ managing them if he is still injured.

This segment was what Roman needed. He looked bad ass, strong and done with Shane and his minions shit. Welcome back Roman, now give us Roman VS Kofi at Summerslam please.

I was very confused by the start of the main event, how it ends in DQ and wrestler come down and all fight but we finally got our main event and oh my what a match. I swear two of the best in ring performers and we got a magical match, I really wish this was a feud.

Rollins burning everyone down, women’s division needs a spark, Bayley carrying the division and New Day reunites

Natty Insight: What all wrestling shows have been missing in the last 10 years has been how to start off the show and how to end the show. Sure the stuff in the middle during Raw was some filler, but the beginning and end of show were amazing.

Highspots:

  • Seth Rollins has been improving and establishing himself is the greatest wrestler in the world more and more every single show. Rollins has always been my favorite, but I do see the talk on social media. The talk that Rollins shouldn’t beat Brock or be the one to face Brock, I saw a lot of that hate and still do. You have got to be blind if you are not impressed with everything Rollins has done not only on the mic and in the ring, but to Brock. Who would have ever thought that Brock would be the second star compared to Rollins, not many. Rollins really sculptured this show for me. With his fire insults and promo on Zayne, Owens and Corbin, along with having an incredible match with Owens to main event.
  • Miz TV was alright, but what I really enjoyed was the tag team match. Miz Braun and Ricochet against Joe, Lashley and Cesaro was amazing wrestling. It really got me to think about Joe and who would be a good opponent for him to face. Honestly Braun VS. Joe would be a great big man feud, but wrestling quality wise may not add much. I feel Ricochet is ready and you can make it a fatal 4-way or triple threat, but it’s time to put some gold on Ricochet.
  • Another good wrestling match on Raw was Revival VS. Usos VS. Hawkin and Ryder. I enjoyed this match, yes they have had way better matches but I thought this was good way to put Usos in the driver seat to chase the tag titles and win them at Summerslam.
  • This 24-7 title stuff I absolutely love. Besides Rollins, this was my favorite segment on the show. Them being stuck in an elevator just talking about life and funny things, just had me going. R-Truth is so good at what he does and so far I have loved his story along with Carmella.
  • Speaking of Carmella she had a good match on Smackdown with Sonya. I know I get in my feelings a lot about the blonde white females and how WWE loves to push those girl, but Carmella has improved in ring as well as Liv and the heat they get online is not valid. Sonya in my eyes is a future star and I prefer seeing Mandy in the role as the heel manager over a wrestler.
  • Great promo by New Day and Owens, Sami and Ziggler on Smackdown. Big E really brings that fire back to New Day and his promo defending Kofi was really great. Sami is good at playing the heel in promos while Ziggler has just been amazing, I like his character change. The entire promo told a really good story, I liked it a lot. The match itself was very good as well. Love all these guys!
  • Nikki Cross and Bayley had a really good wrestling match. The match wasn’t necessarily long but they worked with the time they had and very well. This was my favorite women’s match in weeks, I really enjoyed it. I also just love how Bayley keeps adding more to her wrestling moveset, she is always improving I love that.

Lowspots:

  • They are trying to make Lars come across as this monster, but it is just not working. Him squashing Lucha Houseparty isn’t doing much for either side. Maybe throwing Lars some enhancement talent until he can improve in ring and on mic would be the best option at this point. To me he doesn’t come across as a monster when he should be.
  • Can this Lacey and Becky feud just end, please. I don’t know how the women’s division all throughout 2018 was at its peek and now we are getting inexperienced wrestlers facing talent like Becky Lynch and Bayley. Bayley taking the pin in her hometown bothered me. The match quality besides Bayley having some cool spots was not great. We are back in this stigma of the white blondes with athletic and modeling experience are facing the actual wrestlers, lets just hope we don’t repeat the divas era. It’s almost like the women’s division needs some new talents from NXT to just debut and spice things up, kind of like what Riott Squad did at one point when they debuted.
  • I know a lot of people have said Firefly funhouse has been their favorite part of Raw this last month, but for me it hasn’t. I don’t find it funny or entertaining. I respect Bray and think his ideas are interesting and that he is very talented, but this just isn’t for me.
  • I like the Miz, but him facing Elias, then Drew, then Shane kind of just felt like burying Miz. Shane has been a good heel and Drew with him is good, but it just needs a new feel.
  • Tag team division on Smackdown is a bit of a mess right now. Not high on heavy machinery, there comedy I am not into. I also don’t feel Daniel Bryan and Royan fit being tag team champions right now, maybe if they had actual competition I would feel it more.

Who is the next squared circle queen?

The question with my debate which is open to all opinions is who is the next Trish or Lita. We have witnessed a lot of women come forward. Charlotte, Becky, Bayley, AJ Lee, Molly Holly, Asuka, Sara del rey, Lita, Trish, Madusa, Victoria, Ivory, Nikki Bella, Naiomi, Melina, Jazz, Kari Sane, Toni Storm, Natalya, Beth Phoenix, Candice Larae, Ember Moon, Awesome Kong, Mia Yim, Lo Shira, Bianca Belair, Moolah, Mae Young, Wendi Richter, also independent/Impact ladies like Tessa, Mercedes Martinez, Gail Kim, Madison Eagles, Allie, Serena Deeb, Lacey, Cheerleader Melissa, Sexy Star, Aja Kong, Britt Baker, Kylie Ray, and so much more.

What are you and we looking for when we speak of the next goddess, golden girl, queen, squared circle of pro wrestling. I am going to highlight some highspots on in my opinion what makes a wrestler a star.

  • Character/gimmick: Living that character and embracing that gimmick. Making everything about your character, part of yourself. Being comfortable in your own skin and making the fans believe that is your everyday character. A lot have a problem with this especially with social media.
  • Phycology/chemistry: To be great not only in the ring but on the mic, you have to have that connection not only with the fans, but with your opponent. Also believing in yourself and getting the fans engaged into your storylines, emotions and character.
  • Telling a story/storylines: From the beginning what got fans so involved and glued was the story telling and emotion, that organic real feel. When a wrestler can tell a story in the ring regardless of what creative gives them, that’s a true star.
  • Selling/charisma: These two things are very important. You need the charisma to make a fan feel like that character is relatable and you need the selling to make the fans believe, this adds a lot to the in ring story a wrestler is explaining, it’s really the truest art. You also need the “look.” This look doesn’t mean you have to look like a model or the girl next door, it means you have what it takes.
  • Spots/promos: If you could choose, what’s more important? Spots or a solid breathtaking promo. Once upon a time you had average wrestling skills along with solid mic skills, now wrestlers focus more on their spots rather then their promos. With wrestlers raising the bar in the athletic department, now day’s you need both to get over. A wrestler to make it as the top woman or top guy, you need to be solid at both as that is what fans these days are demanding. A lot of pressure and only some have it.

A lot of women are solid on some and even most of these, but not all of these. To be the queen, goddess, the woman, top girl, top woman, top female, trailblazer, boss, the man, you need to be all. There is one female wrestler that comes to my mind and that is Sasha Banks, now let me explain before I get the backflash.

What did the early 2000s give us that a lot of women’s wrestling era’s seemed to lack? They were not all the same, they were different flavors for every unique fan. You have to connect to your audience and open up yourself to them. The women’s wrestling in early 2000’s did that and this is no knock on Mae Young, Moolah or even the females in mid 2000’s that were diva’s but being different and relatable is everything.

Trish had that emotion in her for wrestling, a beautiful blonde from toronto that found love for wrestling the more she trained. She didn’t want to be a valet or manager,  she wanted to work hard, get those bruises and wrestle. Beautiful girls all around the world believed they could really do this. Trish’s athletic ability was really the first time you saw women focus on their craft and want it to be perfect, like their own painting. You see so many women inspired by Trish maybe more than any female wrestler and her being relatable and fighting for her spot had a lot to do with that. She was unique in her own way, she had the brains, determination, beauty, passion, strength and fitness but also the dream girl look for the guys.

Lita was a whole different flavor and she was what gave the girls and women that maybe didn’t want to dress or look perfect, relate to someone that just wanted to be themselves. A tomboy, a rebel, a punk rocker, a woman that just lived in the moment and went for her dreams. She dropped everything in life and moved to Mexico for wrestling, she had that light of never giving up regardless of what anyone thought of her or told her. Wearing baggy pants, she made all girls and women know you don’t have to dress half naked in a wrestling match. You can look sexy covered up and who says you even have to look sexy. Even though Lita was a red headed lovely beautiful woman she had that attitude of fuck all of you and I will be me. With Lita also taking out the boys and hanging with the boys, all women and men could relate to Lita and her attitude just connected with so many. She also sacrificed so much for wrestling, breaking her neck, tearing her ACL, having everyone watch her relationship erupt on TV. She left it all in the ring and would of done anything for wrestling and that was what made so many idolize her.

What both of these women had that women these days don’t is deep dialog, not extremely scripted storylines. Some can adapt to change and some can’t. Both Lita and Trish would pitch to Vince and creative and do their own thing, not line by line of what Vince or creative suggested. They never played it safe, they took risks and let Vince know when they weren’t comfortable with something too. Storylines, your character, your own style, flavor means a lot but what means more is how you can create, enhance and end a feud. Lita and Trish were the best at that. The only female that comes to my mind when I think of how intense Lita and Trish got is how intense Sasha Banks gets with any of her opponents.

Back to Sasha Banks, she has a solid, intense, believable, relatable character and lives her gimmick as the boss. She fights for her dreams and won’t let journalist, fans or the company she works for take away the love she has for wrestling, she has always remained a fan of the product and isn’t ashamed of that. Her wrestling ability is top notch, up next to Natalya, Bayley, Charlotte, Tessa, Bayley, and Becky. She tells a story in the ring, even when WWE doesn’t give her the best opportunities and storylines. From her facials, to promos, to ring work. Sasha is the full package and in my eyes the next squared circle goddess or more like squared circle boss, the next Lita, Trish.

Another part of being a star, is moments and history or in this case herstory. Sasha Banks has had so many first evers including females in the WWE wrestling for the first time in Dubai. Sasha faced Alexa Bliss and made history, she also was in first ever Hell in A Cell, no falls counts anywhere, iron women match and women’s royal rumble. Sasha Banks and Bayley made the biggest impact in NXT out of any other wrestlers, male or female and when she went to the main roster there was no denying how incredible she was and every time women’s wrestling went up another level, Sasha was part of it and all for the right reasons. The biggest moment in women’s wrestling happened at Evolution, the first ever all women’s PPV. Sasha Banks and Bayley had been on a roll in the tag teams division for the last 6 months and made history by winning the first ever tag team women’s titles. Booking wise it was really heartbreaking to see Sasha and Bayley losing the tag titles at Wrestlemania and told they would split up. With that said the future can only tell but Sasha deserves to be in women’s title picture again with all the impact and hard work she has put into women’s wrestling and the women’s evolution in WWE.

I personally have not seen a female wrestler I can connect with since Lita and Trish. Everyone has their own flavor and spice. Mine is respect, passion, emotion, hard work mixed with all the elements of creating a wrestler. My one big hope is intergender wrestling coming back to life and Sasha I know would be perfect for that challenge and another stepstone in her career. When I look at Sasha I see a wrestler that has wanted this for her entire life and she will not let go and that’s why she keeps bringing it every match, regardless. With all the topics I have discussed above is the reasons I feel Sasha is and should be the top women, the most pushed female in the WWE. In the end regardless of how WWE pushes, uses or handles Sasha she will always remain as one of the greatest wrestlers ever, because that is how damn good she is.
