This was a very good week of wrestling. AEW Saturday night, and an amazing Raw on Monday and solid Smackdown on Tuesday.
Raw started out crazy and this may have been the best start of Raw in years. The explosion and the sell of Lashley and Braun was amazing. Everything looked realistic and like a work, I really enjoyed it.
Raiders and Joe defeating New Day was a really good match and the outcome was certainly a risky but interesting booking. I personally feel Kofi needs to be protected and not submitted or pinned but I do understand them wanting Joe to look strong.
I absolutely loved the Undertakers promos, this has been his best promo since facing Roman. I am really looking forward to this match but would like to see an alliance with Roman and Undertaker or at least an understanding as a tag team for Extreme Rules.
We certainly had an interesting promo with Rollins and Becky along with Mike and Maria. I thought Maria nailed this promo and goodbye to PG era with her calling her husband her bitch. I laughed so hard at that promo, but she really looked like a star cutting that promo. Becky and Rollins need to find their chemistry during promos and in ring or they need to end this partnership at Extreme Rules. It just comes across as not organic and awkward.
Street profits promos on Raw, made this show feel like a star show. We need more of the street profits, they are so entertaining.
Maverick becomes the new 24/7 champion, for now this is alright. I just really like the championship on Truth with Mella right now. Eventually Mella being the champion would be awesome. As long as they have a story, this has and will be entertaining.
Ricochet and AJ had another good match, wasn’t as good as last week but it had it’s moments. We finally got a heel turn by AJ and now we can develop a story with an amazing in ring match. Looking forward to this.
Kevin Owens started out Smackdown with the KO show. Kevin Owens is so damn good at everything he does, give me baby face Owens. Kevin being real towards Drew and Shane was great, I really thought we were getting a babyface turn and Owens VS. Drew but instead we got Zigs and Owens teaming up. I thought Shane and Drew were not good in this segment but Owens was great. My favorite part was Owens blowing up on Ziggler and basically spitting out facts. Tag team match itself was good, but I really wanted Zigs and Owens to get a run as a tag team.
Nikki Cross lost to Bayley, but this was a good part to add to the story. Honestly the biggest story in WWE right now have been Nikki Cross and Bliss. I hope Paul Heyman gets his hands on this and continue to add to this story. Nikki is a female Dean/ Mick Foley. She is really good and plays crazy well. Bliss and her really go off each other well. Unfortunately this whole story is making Bayley not seem like the champion on Smackdown. Bayley and Becky are the champions of their brand but they are not displayed that way, hopefully Paul and Eric can help with this.
Andrade and Crews had a good match, we just need a story attached to this and get that IC title picture going.
I was happy that Ember finally got a win, she beat Mandy. Match itself was alright but her finisher was all worth it. They have been teasing a lesbian storyline with Mandy and Sonya and I’m not against it, but make it real not some two hot women in a makeout storyline. Give it story and meaning.
Ali cut a really good promo, he is so good at these. He talks about chasing the light and how he doesn’t want the WWE title for money and fame, he wants to give those all around him hope and inspiration. Kofi has been booked well, but Ali in my heart was who I wanted to be the champion all along and I would love to see it.
Last thing I would like to talk about is AEW’s event over the weekend, Fyter Fest. I was not engaged or entertained by the event. AEW wrestlers have taken shots at WWE for their comedy acts but the librarian and hokey things on that show were certainly not my cup of tea or what I find entertaining. I also was disappointed in the production and film angles. This is what WWE will always win in, their backstage and production team. I thought having Cody VS. Allin and Jon VS Joey were two matches that were gimmick matches full of hot shotting. I saw nothing different than what WWE, independents and other promotions are doing. I do not see edge, unless you count pointless highspots and thumbtacks an edge. It was just not for me, I think Cody, Omega and young bucks are amazing but explaining a chair is gimmicked made me turn away. We all know wrestling is predetermined but do you really have to discuss the behind the scenes of it being predetermined, leave some suspense. It comes down to lack of storylines, hot shotting, no selling and too predictable.
